This puppet was created as a tribute to Judith Jamison the year she ceded leadership as Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Created as a large, bunraku-style puppet that was hoisted up on a bamboo stick into her signature pose from the ballet "Cry", her skirt doubled as a shadow puppet screen where children performed shadow puppet symbols of the ways she inspired them to shine.
